If you followed WordCamp Brighton 2017, you might remember that we gave 10 free tickets to those from under-represented groups to help encourage diversity in our community. And we’re really pleased to say that we’re able to continue this initiative at WordCamp Brighton 2018 😊
We’re trying to make WordCamp Brighton as inclusive and accessible as possible, so that anyone who has an interest in WordPress can attend.
The WordPress community can provide a number of fantastic opportunities to those involved, and we believe that everyone should feel welcome to join in.
And what better opportunity are there than WordCamps? Organised entirely by volunteers, they’re a chance for the community to get together, learn, exchange knowledge and celebrate WordPress.
Free tickets for under-represented groups
We’re giving away 10 WordCamp Brighton tickets to people from groups under-represented at WordCamps.
Under-represented groups include, but are not limited to, women, individuals with a disability, Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people and LGBTQIA+ people.
Why free tickets?
We hope that offering free diversity tickets will provide a bit of extra encouragement for those in under-represented groups to take part in WordCamp Brighton.
We want to assure everyone: you absolutely are welcome.
Here are some of the other things we’re doing to make WordCamp Brighton as inclusive and accessible as possible:
- All venues (including Clarendon Centre stage) are wheelchair accessible
- Thanks to our sponsors, our full priced tickets are much lower than the actual cost per attendee. A WordCamp Brighton 2018 ticket costs £30, but the real cost per attendee is over £100
- There will be a room for parents and their children to relax and have time away from the conference
- Hearing loops will be available in the main auditorium at the Clarendon Centre
- Quiet rooms will be available at the conference for all attendees to use
- All identifying information was removed before selecting talks
- Offering mentor support to all speakers
- Organising as much of this event as possible in the open. You’re welcome to join in (or observe) on Slack, in the channel #wordcamp-brighton
- Continuously trying to reach more people from more diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Promoting our Code of Conduct in the lead up and during the event

How do I get a Diversity Ticket?
Diversity Tickets are available now by entering the coupon code WordPress2018 on the ticket page on this website.
Diversity Tickets are limited to one per person.
If you have any issues claiming a ticket, please get in touch and we can help.
To qualify for a Diversity Ticket you don’t need to explain to us (or anybody) why you think you’re from an under-represented group. You also don’t need to meet any specific criteria.
The important part is: you’re welcome at WordCamp Brighton and we’d 💜 you to join us.
10 tickets are available at the moment, but we’re looking into increasing this.
What’s included with a Diversity Ticket?
Diversity Tickets come with exactly the same perks as the WordCamp Brighton 2018 Tickets, including full access to both Conference days, all workshops, the afterparty, and Contribution Day.
If you’d like to come along to our Contribution Day, don’t forget to claim a ticket for that too. Contribution Day tickets are free for everyone.
Delicious vegetarian lunches are provided throughout WordCamp Brighton, as well as snacks, coffee, tea etc. We’re also providing dinner at the afterparty. Any dietary requirements you may have will be catered for, just make sure that we’re aware of them.
Please note, we won’t be providing travel or accommodation.

Will anyone know that I’ve claimed a Diversity Ticket?
No, not unless you want them to! We do not disclose any attendee purchasing information.
Only this year’s organisers will know who has a Diversity Ticket (this is because we have access to the WordCamp Brighton 2018 website admin).
You’re more than welcome to tell people you’ve claimed a Diversity Ticket though – it’s totally up to you.
What if I claim a ticket but can’t attend?
If you can’t attend WordCamp, we ask that you get in touch with us as soon as possible to let us know. That way we can release your Diversity Ticket for someone else to use.

We’re aware we need to reach beyond our usual networks to increase the diversity of WordCamp Brighton.
With that in mind, we would love if you could help us spread the word. Please let others know about the availability of these Diversity Tickets through your own networks, so we can reach as many people as possible.
